The historical and curatorial information on this site came from numerous sources. A particular debt is due to Blair House staff, whose knowledge and research permeate every page on the site. Online resources maintained by the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library (www.trumanlibrary.org) provided a wealth of information (including both primary historical documents and analytical articles). National Park Service websites for Antietam and other battlefields were a source of valuable background information on the Civil War and significant persons of the period.

Information and photographs from Blair House: The President’s Guest House (published 1989 by The Blair House Restoration Fund, with text by Marlene Elizabeth Heck and photographs by Kari Haavisto, Hickey-Robertson, Mary E. Nichols, and John F. Grant) were extraordinarily valuable in the creation of this site.

Other valuable references included:

A number of general reference works were also consulted for basic factual and historical information.
